5 Fragen an Mylenne Manrique
What is your academic background?
I am currently a PhD student in Roma Tre, under the supervision of Marco and Ilaria. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics and master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, both from University of the Philippines Diliman. I previously worked on semiconductors, mainly low-cost fabrication and optical characterization techniques.
2. How and when did you get interested in quantum physics?
I’ve spent the last 4 years working in a private semiconductor industry, before I decided to eventually pursue PhD. I’ve witnessed how technologies are rapidly evolving and one of my key takeaways is the importance of the never-ending willingness to learn, unlearn, and re-learn. Since I was a child, I am always that curious little girl whose been so fascinated with science. And in a world that we have right now, dealing with tons of information and approaching problems with revolutionized solutions, I believe quantum physics is so worth exploring for.
3. What are you working on in Stormytune?
I am working on developing characterization techniques for single-photon sources. It involves exploring a different regime where photons have sizeable bandwidth, allowing us to engineer various shapes aiming good fidelity and efficiency.
4. What do you think will be the most exciting thing to come out of Stormytune?
I believe that the most exciting part is the journey itself, developing new quantum systems of timefrequency measurements beyond the classical approach. Not to mention the collaboration with great, curious minds along the way :)
5. What are your future career perspectives?
To be honest, I still do not know for certain. One thing I’m only sure of is my continuous pursuit for science, society, and research :D
